Thaksin University is an historic institution
Thaksin, meaning of the south, University has long been a well-respected institution of the historic Srinakarinwiroj University network.
It is one of the Royal Thai Government public universities, and one of the few granted a measure of autonomy. Located in Songkhla and Phattalung, Thaksin University spans major disciplines with an internationally qualified faculty. It also maintains the Southern Thai Studies Centre and Museum complex on Ko Yo island in the extensive Songkhla Lakes System as a research and study facility, and various other research and development sites.
Successful and prospective candidates
Candidates have come from Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand and the USA, for example.
Thaksin University's student profile is diverse; in building on this, the Ph.D. program considers all research that contributes to knowledge.
Disciplines are themed through sustainable development across all disciplines including, but not limited to, architecture, economics and business, fine and traditional arts, humanities, law, medicine, sciences and applied sciences.
Faculty and Advisors
Faculty for the program is drawn from active and internationally qualified academics of the university supplemented by international academics who are often retirees at the top of their fields.
Other staff supporting the program is academically qualified, ranging from university presidents to business-qualified graduates, managing the program through the International College of Thaksin University.
The Thaksin University Ph.D. program is under the direction of Past University President Dr. Somkiat Saithanoo, with international advisor Prof. Dr. Lindsay Falvey from the University of Melbourne.
Candidates are required to demonstrate academic and professional abilities.

Research degrees are based on the creation of knowledge. In scientific and technical fields this commonly takes the form of a prolonged period of investigation collated into a prescribed format of thesis. In other disciplines, other forms are considered, such as performance or exhibition supported by an exegesis.
